Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Warriors Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in strength within the city.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of characters who will separate from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the developments of the latest installment show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death started the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the secret base, striking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and fled to a secure base in the remote area, beyond the city, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each member has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants retribution.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and warns that it is a nasty environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the party access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in quest for the traitor.

What’s Next?

From episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Questers and Strategists tables.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which characters will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
